While we decided on day one that we weren’t having a wedding party, an incredible team of close friends nevertheless ended up gathering around us with love, humour, support, and a whole lot of candy this past year. Recently, I remarked to the mister that despite the informality of their roles, we should still get them wedding party gifts. Even though we didn’t ask them to, they have gone above and beyond as friends and as wedding cheerleaders. A bunch of them have been working on our bachelor/ette party for months, while another friend is singlehandedly responsible for the entirety of our iPod playlist. They are too great. We counted up the various friends and family members who were involved in a big way and realised we had ten people to buy for.
Most are women, but I kind of didn’t want to do the usual jewelery thing (despite the fact that I loooove getting jewelery as a gift myself) because we have some picky customers among our friends. We had a hard time coming up with something for everyone that wouldn’t break the bank, since, you know, there are ten of them. Finally, I had it–the mister’s mom, every Christmas, buys each of her (adult) kids a beautifully illustrated children’s book. I have always loved this tradition–what a sweet and sentimental gift. As I am a big fan of sentiment, I proposed that we get each of our dear friends a children’s book.
So we pillaged the kids’ section at our local bookstore, and I came home with a (heavy!) pile of colourful volumes:

Willa the kitten clearly approves. Each book we chose was pretty and sweet and wonderful and sometimes weird or sad or funny. We hope that our friends appreciate the books as much as we appreciate them!
Speaking of childrens’ books… (OK, I know you’ve chosen all yours. But this is too awesome to go unshared.)
What a sweet idea. I am not jealous at all!
So sweet!
I love it. I love children’s books, I can’t give up mine, even though we have absolutely nowhere to keep them.
